D4 - We're in This Together (All Day Event)
D4 - We're in This Together (All Day Event)
We’re In This Together
Over the past few weeks there have been growing rumblings of discontent in Kandra’s Run. Many of the town’s residents had hoped the war might pass them by entirely. The fall of the Concord Dawn changed all that. Although there’s little sympathy for the Mandalorian cause in town a group of prominent citizens calling themselves The Peace Committee have been lobbying for a ceasefire with the Crusaders and the expulsion of the Republic battlegroup. So far Mayor Evevos has politely but firmly rejected the suggestion while Ciph Protragdon has shown some sympathy.
It’s up to you to rallying the town’s flagging morale and get the people back on side. But will you use carrot or stick, and what does either say about you?
This All Day Event is open to all PCs, each PC who participates must roll for all steps.
Advantage and Disadvantage are turned into boost and setback for that character’s next roll at a rate of 2 to 1. Triumphs upgrade the ability of their next check, despair’s upgrade the difficulty.
In this event player characters will generate ‘carrot’ and ‘stick’ points that will form a pool they and other PCs can use in the future. Every 4 carrot points can be spent to upgrade the ability of and add one boost dice to a non-combat skill check on a future day. Every 2 stick points can be spent to upgrade the ability of and one boost dice to a non-combat skill in the future. However, every 2 stick points generated will add a setback dice to a pool that GMs may add to future PC non-combat skill checks. Be warned!
Force Sensitive Characters will generate 1 conflict if they generate any stick points.
Part 1 - What’s the matter with you?
The first step is trying to figure out a little more nuance as to what’s going on. Sure the Peace Committee all want the Republic out and the war far away, but their reasons are diverse. If you find out what’s pushing them you’ll be able to reason things out with them…or maybe find some leverage.
PCs can generate carrot points by making their choice of a hard charm or leadership check ◆◆◆. Success and every further 2 successes generates carrot points.
PCs can generate stick points by making their choice of an average with one upgrade knowledge:underworld or skulduggery check ⬟ ◆. Successes and every further 2 successes generates stick points.
Part 2- You get more of what you want with a kind word and a …something
Now you know what’s driving them, it’s time to start working on your approach. Do you make concessions and allay their fears? Or are you planning to explain why impeding the Republic during a war is a very bad idea?
PCs can generate carrot points by making their choice of a hard negotiation or perception check with one setback ◆◆◆ ■ . Success and every further 2 successes generates carrot points.
PCs can generate stick points by making their choice of an average coercion or streetwise check with one difficulty upgrade and a setback ⬟ ◆ ■ .
Part 3- Hey, be reasonable
Now you’re prepped it’s time to talk to these fine people and convince them of the right course of action. Of course, convincing can mean different things on different worlds, what matters is they stop making trouble..right?

Re: D4 - We're in This Together (All Day Event)
Tomin was not, actually, the most social person, but the trouble brewing here had a flavor that was all too familiar. She knew the people of Obroa-skai well enough to understand their prickly bits, and people in general tended to look at a bad situation and want the blame placed on something they could affect, instead of something they couldn't.
But attacking the wrong problem would just leave you feeling some momentary triumph while not getting you out of the bad situation. Maybe get out of the pit trap before punching out the dumbass who led you there. Right?
So she used her ability to blend in with the locals to hang out and listen a bit, seeing some of the individual conflicts driving all the discontent. Unfortunately, she wasn't all that good at convincing folks to do anything they hadn't already determined to do...and shooting them, which she *was* good at...seemed likely to be counterproductive.

Re: D4 - We're in This Together (All Day Event)
This looked like a job for... Captain Apollo!
"Hey hey hey, the Republic's been hard at work, along with myself, beating up these Mandalorians! Doing a pretty fine job at it too, because we're big damn heroes." Apollo started, smooth and charming as always.
"And who exactly are you?" one of the locals piped up.
"Me? I am captain Apollo. You may have heard of me and my exploits, and I have some knowledge fighting ruffians like these. Like when I fought the kill-droids of Corlando, which I defeated cleverly fighting alongside the locals there. You see, I realised that the droids had a kill-limit..." the thrilling story of how the droids eventually short-circuited from too much killing wasn't a popular one, but thankfully the Zeltron captain managed to turn it around to his advantage as he derailed from his story and began talking about the attractive military personel he ended up sleeping with.
"What does that have to do with anything?!" another local finally said in a huffy tone.
"Ah well, you see... what I mean is, if we work together, I'm sure we can all have a good time! For various definitions of good times, of course, but you know what I mean," he smirked and gave a wink to the crowd. A couple went weak at the knees in response.

Re: D4 - We're in This Together (All Day Event)
Rowdy and unhappy locals, that's something that she was very used to handling as a CorSec officer. Of course, handling and successfully managing are far too different matters entirely. Seeing as Corellia with a large amount of corruption, class discrepancy, hot tempers, and all sort of other system issues, CorSec wasn't exactly always a pleasant face for most of the locals for fair reasons.
Vala strolled in with an air of authority about her, although she wasn't going to say that their grievances weren't fair. Actually, she was very surprised that they'd tolerated them for this long after making such a large mess of their backyard and being such a drain by bringing the war here. Maybe if they were better customers from the beginning? "All right, folks! I get that things are tough around here. Everyone is upset, tired, annoyed, cranky, and burnt out. Guess what? So am I! You don't see my crying about it."
However, instead of sounding sympathetic, she might have only highlighted the issues of what brought this unhappy congregation of people together. Not to mention, it was highly insensitive. There was a large chorus of boos and jeers from the audience as she tried to assuage their concerns. "Such a tough crowd. Jeez! Maybe I should just shut my mouth."
That seemed to coax a positive response but probably not exactly for the reason Vala wanted.

Zephrin was ready to help support the Republic and find out what was going wrong for the local people. Unfortunately they didn't want to tell him. He wasn't a natural leader but he also wasn't a quitter!
He wasn't exactly sure what they wanted but did a good job of negotiating to find some common ground. The people seemed to listen to him at least.
It was tiring work for someone more used to absorbing or deflecting incoming Blaster fire. Still Zeph could be charming when the situation called for it. It was his winning personality and natural Bravery that persuaded the locals to listen to him in the end.

Re: D4 - We're in This Together (All Day Event)
Maybe it was the fact that Snowflake was already relatively well known by the locals and had helped them with chores a few times. Maybe it was the fact that he looked like a fluffy mountain. Whatever the reason was, the locals were comfortable around him, which meant it wasn't very hard for him to hear their complaints and get at list some hints of what was troubling them.
Of course that didn't mean what he said to them was helpful. It was no surprise to any of them that the Gigoran often got confused with things others would find simple, but his explanation about why trying to just push the Republic military away was a bad idea was far from convincing, and ended up making quite a few townsfolk wonder whether the off-worlders had got into Snowflake's head . Maybe even used him as a guinea pig!
The misunderstanding made him quite frustrated, and he gathered a few townsfolk around to show how he was the same good old Snowie. He thought about how to do that for a while, and ended up deciding he'd both show them how he was just his normal self and show them the importance of fighting for Obroa-Skai's freedom by... lifting up a large pile of lumber with a Bantha on top. In his mind, doing that and screaming "For family!" would be just what they needed to see!
The result, unfortunately (but perhaps not unexpectedly) was somewhat different.
He lifted the lumber alright, but the Bantha got scared and darted off, its owner desperately ran off to try and round it up, followed by quite a few others. Given the state of things, he thought screaming was maybe not such a good idea. The townsfolk who were still around, however, had no qualms against angrily screaming "ARE YOU WITH YOU OR AGAINST US, FLUFFBALL!?"

Fe was a pretty easy-going guy for the most part, and he could understand the people's reservations about being involved in the war effort. Still there was a limit to his patience and the stubborn people of the town who didn't want to see the reality of the situation could be annoying to deal with at best.
He tried his best to use his better nature to appeal to people at first, but as the day wore on so did his nerves and in the end, he may have been a bit too forceful about matters.

In order to pump herself up for dealing with the problem, Zeline downed a heavy dose of a liquid best left unmade. She knew exactly where to go, what to do...
And then she really couldn't put together the words. Her head fumed as she tried to push people around. She definitely was able to be rough. Effectiveness though? Nobody ended up knowing what she even wanted.
By the end of it, she was in angry tears before storming off away from everyone. Thank goodness she didn't have her blaster on her.
