D11 End This Blasted War (Open - 4 players, high-risk combat)

End This Blasted War

Image

Location: The smoking ruins of the smoking ruins of the shield generator. A sizable crater has been blasted in the center of the structure and now there’s a large circle of molten earth and metal. In the dead centre of it stands Krenna Bal’Fortenes, her armour nearly molten slag as she bleeds from a dozen wounds. But she still stands. Already crusader reinforcements are flooding in to save their leader. If there’s any chance to take her down, it’s now.

This event now open to 4 players.

Because of the heroic nature of this moment, any PC can choose to gain two upgrades to a check they are making as an incidental, but in return the next attack against them is upgraded twice.

Once per combat any PC not in this scene can as an out of turn incidental flip a destiny point to either:

Reduce the damage of an attack that hits a PC by 3
Heal a PC in the scene for 3 strain
Upgrade a PC's next check once and add 2 boost dice to that check
Cause a critical hit against a PC to be re-rolled

The PC must write a short fluff post about how they managed to assist (yelling encouraging words, distracting an enemy, having prepared something relevant earlier).

Premise: Incapacitate (this time for good) Warlord Krenna Bal’Fortenes.

Players roll vigilance or cool initiative.

: Krenna Bal’Fortneses, One Mandalorian Crusader Blood Leader, One Fallen Knight, One Wing Commander, One squad of 5 Maalras

PCs start at short range to Krenna Bal’Fortneses, and medium range to the reinforcing Mandalorians.

Well, someone had to bring this to an end. Zephrin reached out to the Force, felt the presence of his comrades nearby. He smiled briefly. The Hopers were in this together, until the bitter end. Lightsaber in hand he bravely walked towards their foe one more time.

From the stories and intel floating around, Tomin isn't sure if stopping this warlord will stop the war, but it sounds like it will stop her very particular vendetta that involves Obroa-skai, at least; which sounds like a job for the 'strike hard and end it' philosophy she's been trained in. She finds herself moving with the news that the lady Bal’Fortenes was spotted near the ruins of the shield generators.

And while she'd rather set up at a distance and settle her aim, somehow she finds herself picky about the locations she can find...poor sightlines, nasty thermals...until she's a bit surprised to find herself nearly on top of the Mandalorian of the hour.

The Zeltron captain managed a grin as he finished the brief tale with a punny punchline, giving his newfound-sword a little twirl. "Well, let's finish this. One way or another."

One more adventure wouldn't hurt. Plus she was really just right there. It would be tougher to walk back then walk forward.

And as suddenly as she realized she was a lot closer than intended, everyone was there. There's a slightly cocky grin as she says. "Gonna shoot first before you're in the way, Zephrin!"

The Warlord's armor has seen better days. Tomin doesn't bother with the sights meant for range and feels the new rifle purring an energized hum as she asks the Force to find a spot that's more char than metal now.

Krenna's right arm soars off into the sky, still clutching her pistol! The Warlord roars in pain and fury. The Mandalorians rushing to support echo the call as well, surging towards the Hopers with murderous intent!

At the sight of Krenna's arm flying off, Rece's own mechanical hand, apparently imbued with some limited subroutines, raises itself in a thumbs-up the the rest of the Hopers. "If she can lose a limb," the hand seems to say, "we can kill her. She is mere flesh and blood, as mortal as any one of you. And like the hand that once stood in my place, she must be excised for the good of all. Finish her."

Or, whatever meaning Fec takes from a thumbs-up.

The shot from Tomin left an opening, and Terreck wasn't one to miss a chance when it was presented to him, so lining up his blaster with the Warlord he fired. The troops would be here soon, but trying to incapacitate her before then was imperative.

Krenna sways as Terreck's shot nearly blasts her from her feet, the warlord going down onto one knee, blood running from beneath her helmet.

And then the Crusaders arrive, the Blood Leader bellowing a raw of pure primal fury as he rushes Tomin to shield his commander! But the Jedi is already moving and dodges the blow of his axe!

There's a horrible rasping sound from under Krenna's helmet as she reaches up and clumsy pushes it free, revealing features familiar to Apollo (although there was roughly 99% less murderous rage beneath the surface). Heedless of the calls from her own side she stars to limp, then to walk, joining the charge of her fellow crusaders as they hit your line!

Driven by little more than sheer bloodlust she finds Tomin, knocking her own soldier away to seize the Jedi by the throat and lift her bodily from the ground with one arm, her grip squeezing tighter and tighter.

"Take....my arm? Give. ME YOUR HEAD!"

"You've done enough damage, Zephrin." The knight launches into a powerful series of blows, raining hits down on the Soresu master. "We won't allow you to strike at the warlord anymore!"

Othym feels the pain of Tomin ripple out across the battlefield, giving him a flash of her anguish as Krenna tries to strangle her. The Mandalorian's rage is almost palpable, and Othym can do little to quell it, instead reaching out to loosen the vice-like grip, hoping to give Tomin a moment of respite

"No. You have already failed." His lightsaber parried the savage blows enough to get into a better position (Parry to 7, 3 strain). Footwork was key. As the Knight braced for his return strike he was gone.

A flash of movement.

The blue blade struck cleanly. Somehow it found a gap in the Cortosis and hot plasma eased into Krenna's flesh. It bit deep. The cloying smell of burnt flesh. With an arm gone and other clutching at Tomin she could not prevent it. Krenna's training was such that she lashed out with her leg and he was forced to pull his blade out at an awkward angle to block it.

Was it enough? Was the Force still with them?

Krenna looks down at the glowing blade lodged in her chest. Her arm weakly twitches on instinct to return the blow. But her body simply refuses. With a look of anger and perhaps just the barest hint of grudging respect, Krenna collapses to the ground.

The pack of Maalras downgrade their action to a maneuver and then double move to engage Apollo.

The pack of Maalras speed across the dust and ash at Apollo and then pause as their take in his unique pheromones, perhaps buying him a second or two before they decide he smells tasty.

Everything was happening really fast, and Apollo wasn't quite taking it all in as he did what he did do best; talking. "Victory is near! Stand fast, and we'll celebrate with cham-paggin!"

A woman of expensive taste like Krenna would probably be glad she was unconscious and didn't hear that butchering of the word.

Then he was finally noticing the cat-like monsters coming towards him. "Also, uh... HELP!"
