Location: The entrance to the pens of Nus Gral. Huge filthy metal gates set into a high wall, you can hear the bellows from within. The ground in front of the gates is a slurry of mud and snow, that has been pounded by thousands of beasts.

Premise: The gates themselves have a terrible guard. Only a monster could keep order in these pens and be trusted enough by Nus himself to oversee the camp. The gates are overseen by a Mandalorian known only as ‘Old Merc’ astride a fearsome Rancor! If the strike team heading for Nus himself is going to have any chance of success your team will have to defeat the gate’s guardian! Players roll cool for initiative

Opposition:
Old Merc on a rancor, 2 squads of four beast minders.

Players roll cool or vigilance for intiative

Player note: The thick mud makes movement difficult, if a PC makes two move maneuvers in the same turn they suffer an additional two strain.

Old Merc is adversary 2 and silhouette 3. He has two initiative slots, one normal and one at the end of the round.
The beast minders are defence 1

PCs start at medium range to all opposition.

Normally, Tomin would feel some squeamishness at hunting captive beasts, even ones guarding important objectives. But that rancor isn't remotely native to the planet, shouldn't be here, and definitely shouldn't get a chance to get out into the wilderness to chew through the ecosystem. The human riding it is almost negligible in her 'sight', though she knows that he's more likely to shoot back than the rancor.

Quick pats at her pouches confirm that supplies are where they're expected to be, as they move into position and she offers that familiar mantra, "may the Force be with us."

"Indeed. Good hunting my friend." He gestured to Tomin in the Miraluka equivalent of a thumbs up. His lightsaber came up in a salute.

The big beast was going to be a problem if the others were going to get to Nus Val. Of course it's rider was probably even more dangerous...

This was probably going to hurt.

Rece whistles. "Has anyone noticed they keep getting bigger?" And they thought that knight in the armory looked tough. Luckily his rifle has been engineered for just this kind of situation.

Vala was here! And she quickly started to wonder if she brought a blaster to a rancor fight. "...they couldn't spare a tank for this fight, really? What are we meant to do here? Dance around until the thing passes out from exhaustion? I'd hate to get squished by that thing, it won't leave anything to bring back!"

The defenders were ready and well organised under Old Merc's command, as you approach they rush out to meet you! Even at a distance the dark side energy radiating from the animal pens was palpable.

"Do not let them enter the pens. Our master is nearly finished with his work!" Old Merc aims his carbine at the Jedi in the lead and contemptuously pulls the trigger, sending an accurate barrage at Zephrin. From his shooting pattern, targeting alternating extremities with heavy fire, he'd fought Jedi before.

Old Merc's skill is indeed impressive. But Rece has fought people who have fought Jedi before before, and two can play at that game. He sights in on the Mandalorian's weapon arm and lands several crippling hits.

His mind flashes back to the battle in the Concord Dawn's armory - it's deja vu all over again.

Old Merc grunts once in pain, his right arm falling slack at his side as Rece's hyper accurate shots slam into the limb, blasting off armour.

"Not...Bad."

He hits a button on his left forearm.

"We need more"

Back in the pens there's a loud hissing sound and a winged shape starts flapping its way towards the battle.

((An Azurdactyl will join the fight next turn))

One of the group of beast minders hustles forward carrying shock poles and stun nets. With a grunt they heave a sparking net at Rece. Although it only catches a part of the Chadra-Fan he is shocked!

Tomin uses mark for death on Old Merc, and a second maneuver to aim for +2 strain. She misses but has the 2 extra advantage for marked for death. Pass a boost to the next PC, boost to Zeph, Boost to Rece, Boost to Vala and heal one strain.

Marked for Death: Maneuver, committing ⬡ . Add 2 Advantage to combat checks vs. target while committed, but cannot use this talent again until that target is incapacitated or session ends. Advantage gained this way cannot be used to recover Strain.

Tomin sights...aims for a moment and then fires! But the Rancor lifts one of its huge claws at the last moment to block the bolt! Still, this does mean it's not looking at the battlefield for a few crucial seconds.

Well this was going to get messy. Zephrin deflected the shots (3 strain) from Old Merc before Rece revealed himself as the true threat! "You know I usually get shot after asking for their surrender."
There wasn't much for it but to concentrate on the Rancor and its rider. Dashing through the mud he struck a solid blow and settled back into defense.

Beast Minder 2 moves to short range from Vala and throws their shock nets at her. Hitting for 9 stun no pierce, and activating ensnare 2! Last advantage to pass on a boost to the next NPC.

When Ensnare is triggered, the target is immobilized for a number of rounds equal to the weapon’s Ensnare rating. An Ensnared target may attempt a Hard Athletics check as is action on his turn to break free from the effect. An immobilized target cannot perform maneuvers.

Old Merc on a Rancor maneuvers to disengage from Zephrin and then to short range from all (2 strain) and then hits Rece for 9 damage, 2 pierce.

Old Merc at Rece. Short range, crippled limb, Rece is dodging. Boost from Minders. Rece is defence 1.

Zephrin's lightsaber bites true, slashing cleanly through part of the Rancor's skull as the beast howls in rage. Old Merc jerks firmly on the reins keeping it under control as it stampedes straight for Rece the larger group, Old Merc laying down some covering fire.

Twisting in his saddle Old Merc turns and steadies his carbine with his good arm, using it to lay down suppressing fire between himself and the Jedi! He then takes a stim and jabs it into his rancor's neck!
Unfortunately one of his shots flies wide and fuses the Azurdactyl's cage closed just as it was about to take flight.

"Ooof!" Vala called out when she was caught in the net launched by the beast handlers. That left her in a sticky situation, especially regarding being active in the fight. However, she supposed she could take this opportunity as a means of trying to land a trickshot without aiming.
