D8 - Under the Cover of Mando

Under the Cover of Mando

Neo-Crusaders, they tend to wear helmets, it’s a Mandalorian thing. And while that does mean that head trauma is way down, Republic infiltration could be way up, if you’re bold enough. Local resistance has passed on the details of a high level crusader strategy meeting happening in a few days. It’s too heavily guarded to attack, but the information discussed there could save lives. You’ve volunteered (or been voluntold) to socially infiltrate the meeting, gather the information and get away without being detected.

This social event is limited to 4 players.

This event is divided into three phases. The Legend, The Meet and The Escape. Participants will craft their fake identity, blend in with Mandalorians and then attempt a clean getaway. Participants must roll in every phase in order.

Success will be measured by the information points generated in phase 2 and that you escape with in phase 3.

Advantage and Disadvantage are turned into boost and setback for that character’s next roll at a rate of 2 to 1.

Phase 1, The Legend

You’re going to need a cover identity, and ideally it should be a good one. Your Legend is the Mandalorian you will be for the meet. To craft your legend, characters should roll deception, skullduggery or computers at average difficulty with one upgrade and one setback .

Success means you have a working legend, failure means you have a shoddy legend. A triumph means you’ve managed to pass as a high ranking Neo-Crusader of some kind, upgrade your dice pool twice in The Meet step. Despair means an old flame/rival/someone who recognises you is present at the strategy meeting! Upgrade the difficulty of your dice pool twice in the Meet step, but add an extra boost dice to your dice pool in The Escape step , you want to get out of there.

GM note: Any character who posts up an image and short background of the character they are impersonating will gain one extra boost dice they can apply to any one subsequent roll.

Phase 2, The Meet

Your Legend is live, now it’s time to use it. The meeting is taking place on the top floor of a luxury hotel, The Svelte Nerfherder. Attendees must enter through the lobby, have their IDs scanned and then make convincing small talk for 15 minutes until the high ranking participants arrive. Then everyone proceeds to the penthouse for discussions.

Characters who succeeded on their roll in phase 1 may roll their choice of an average charm, leadership, deception or coercion check with one difficulty upgrade and one setback ■.

Characters who failed their roll in phase 1 make security suspicious. They may roll their choice of deception, skullduggery or stealth at hard difficulty with one difficulty upgrade and a setback

Success means you blend in perfectly, failure means you only hear a few scattered words. Success and every subsequent two successes earns an information point. A triumph earns an information point and a despair upgrades the difficulty of that character’s escape roll twice.

Phase 3, The Escape

The atmosphere in the room grows tense, the Crusaders have just got word infiltrators might be present. You wouldn’t know anything about that, would you? Naturally your particular choice of exit will depend on your own skills, but it’s time to leave before the security sweeps start.

Characters have two choices in this phase. The Dramatic Escape, or the Coruscanti Goodbye

Those choosing the Dramatic Escape may roll their choice of athletics, coordination, or any combat skill at hard with one setback to effect a daring flight!

Those choosing the Coruscanti Goodbye may roll their choice of deception, skullduggery or stealth at hard difficulty with one setback to vanish as if they were never there ■.

Success on your roll means you get away clean. Failure means your extraction is much hairier and you lose half (rounding up) of the information points your character has earned throughout the event.

Every two triumphs rolled in total between all players in this phase will earn one extra information point as you find something crucial on the way out.

If the players earn 3 or fewer information points the mission is a bust. 4-7 information points is a success, nicely done! 8 or more information points is a stunning success, the next rival fight will be made easier thanks to the crucial information you uncovered.

Going undercover behind enemy lines. It was daring, risky, full of danger. Sexy danger. Apollo made sure to open his shirt and trenchcoat all the way to make up for the fact that his beautiful face would be covered by the metal helmet.

Enter... Apoldolorian! Dashing hired gun from Hutt space!
Image
Many a scum and villainy had heard the name of Apoldolorian, the fastest draw on Makeb. No one had seen his face, but it was said to be so handsome that it left men and women heartbroken if they saw all of it at once. He rode a nameless bike, for he himself was like a mysterious stranger. Drifting from planet to planet, employer to employer, working for the highest bidder - and with the Hutts, those bids were high. But what did he fight for? It wasn't glory or fame. Perhaps revenge? A loved one? Or was he just born with a heart full of neutral greed?

And now he entered this meeting of Neo-Crusaders, guns hanging from his (low) belt.

It was off to a great start for Apoldolorian. A mysterious but famous stranger, it was perfect. And many of the Mandalorians hung on to his words and questions, easily sharing words here and there. Especially when he teased with the opportunity of seeing what the face underneath the helmet was like. Honestly, he could have spent all day here, but knew alas, when the sun was setting it would be time to leave on the nameless horse once more.

And the game could not last forever. "There is a traitor among us!" were the words shared with urgency. Now, any sensible person would have taken the cue and left quietly, using the situation to their advantage to leave without drawing attention. Apollo however had never been a sensible person and could not resist the urge for some drama.

"Hah!" He laughed and tossed off the helmet, revealing his handsome face as he jabbed his thumb at himself. "You thought it was Apoldolorian, but it was I, Apollo! My job here is done!"

"I should've recognized those scented abs! It's that meddling Zeltron working with the Republic!"
"Get him!"

The overly dramatic exit didn't go quite according to plan as Apollo bit over more than he could chew (and would need some helping to get away), but he still had some secrets worth sharing with the Republic.

A Mandalorian in a bulky (and strangely shoddy) armor stepped up. In a deep (or trying to be deep) voice came the booming greeting.

"I am Sir Arthur PlantDragon, knight of Mandalore, slayer of handsome Jedi scum!"

The rent-a-MandaMall cop was suspicious. "Shouldn't you be slaying a krayt dragon or something this season?"

"Erm...I finished early?"

She was reluctantly allowed in, and with a sigh, she joined the others, awkwardly holding a drink of...something.

One does not simply drink as an undercover Mandalorian.

Her awesome helmet also meant she barely heard anything....were they talking about bombing the concord dawn? Or watching the coming dawn? Was it a romantic getaway or an aerial assault?

Finally her nerves got to her! She throw her glass at the floor.

"Smoke bomb!" When people were confused by the lack of smoke, she suddenly did a backflip through the window to escape.

Rece's amateur slicing skills put together a solid legend for the occasion. Foolproof credentials, and the kind of scumbag the Mandalorians will love. But, does he have the strength of will to go through with the portrayal?

Image

Meet the Chadra-Fandalorian. A skilled marksman from a rural backwater, he joined the Neo-Crusaders with one goal and one goal only: to fight his way to the center of galactic civilization and commit as many crimes there as possible. His armor is the color of unfinished durasteel, for he has allowed no government to ever issue him drip. His rifle is unmodified, for martial skill alone is what matters, not intelligence - and it is absolutely possible to overengineer a weapon.

Rece's credentials get him past the door of the meeting. But once there, he finds he would much rather have just snuck in to gather information the old-fashioned way. His conversation starters of "Hello, fellow Mandalorians!" and "Would you like to exchange currency for classified intelligence?" and "I'm not a cop. If I were, I'd have to tell you" don't seem to be making much headway.

When the questions start coming back his way, he decides any hope of gathering useful intel is over. Several mandalorians attempt to corner him at the exit, but he tosses aside his prop rifle and retrieves his own from its hiding place. "Say hello to my over-engineered friend!" He guns his pursuers down and disappears into the night.

Practiced at telling bold-faced lies, Sirina is quick to weave a convincing if convoluted tale of her faux-fame!

Introducing the Indigolorian!

"It's ironic." - the Indigolorian on why her outfit is notably not blue.

Also known as Iceheart, this frosty femme fatale comes to the Neo-Crusaders from... Obroa-Skai itself! (They do say the best lies contains a nugget of truth... ) Rumor has it her only true friend is the cold, for she spurns everything else with her chilly demeanor. Her expertise in artic warfare and skill with a heavy blaster are only matched by her disregard for the lives of those around her! As Iceheart is apt to alter her armor to suit the needs of her environment, the only common factor in her outward appearance is the presence of her braid trailing out from under her helmet.

Apparently a cover that cuts close to home is good enough to get Sirina into the meeting. Mere moments after striding on into the venue, finding a seat, and kicking her feet up, Sirina is confronted by a Mandalorian woman with fur lined armor in cool hues who takes the seat next to Sirina without asking.

Almost instantly, Sirina's cover as... well, herself but in beskar... backfires as the former frontier fling sitting right next to her, coincidentally also a local turned crusader, strikes up conversation. She's quick enough to believe Sirina's story of joining the Neo-Crusaders to "melt the ice with a fuck you from orbit" as "very on-brand". Sirina quickly becomes very much not about this reunion, however, when this particular one-night-stand starts to talk about fate bringing the two of them back together for a long-term partnership. All of this taking place over the discussion of the vital information Sirina and the other Hopers are here to collect.

"Whoa whoa whoa," Sirina says, cutting her off, "I don't so sloppy seconds."

The Mando takes this about as well as any jilted, obsessed former fling would, and draws down. Unfortunately for her, Sirina was already bringing her blaster to bear. In the ensuing firefight, Sirina eventually escapes and rejoins the other Hopers having nothing to show for her efforts.

"What are the odds?" She asks by way of explanation, with a nonplussed shrug.

Maybe you didn't ferret out any war changing information. But, you do cause quite a bit of chaos! The Mandalorian strategy meeting degenerates into feuding factions each accusing one another of being an imposter. Medalorian and Youdalorian end up on opposite sides.
